Red Baldy Ranch: A Legacy of Evolution and Innovation Through the Decades

Our humble beginnings trace back to 1876, when our family homesteaded in Wyoming and established themselves as bakers. In 1890, the family ventured into the cattle industry, thanks to Edwin Ferguson III's great-grandmother, who introduced the family to this new endeavor. Cattle ranching remained the family's primary focus until the need to adapt arose once again.

In 1979, Edwin Ferguson II and Edwin Ferguson III made the bold decision to sell the family's original homestead and invest in irrigated hay properties. This leap of faith marked a significant shift in the family's operations, transitioning entirely from their Red Baldy cattle business to hay production—a pivotal move shaping the family's path forward.

Over the years, we have refined our water management practices, learned to produce hay efficiently, and stayed up-to-date with the latest advancements in the industry. These efforts have enabled us to produce high-quality horse hay, which has rapidly gained recognition among horse operations. Today, we proudly supply dozens of horse operations and feed suppliers throughout Colorado and Wyoming.

Our operations are currently run by the fourth generation. We offer 3x3 bales of grass, mix, alfalfa, and teff. Recently, we have expanded to include small compressed bales of all our mixes. We provide delivery with our self-unloading trailers, offering half to full semi-trailer loads within a 300-mile radius of Cheyenne, WY.
